Ganesha, also spelled Ganesh, also called Ganapati, elephant-headed Hindu god of origins, who is traditionally chanted before any extraordinary work and is the leader of academics, bankers, scribes, and artists.

“Lord of the People” (Gana, which means “ordinary people”) and “Lord of the Ganas” are two translations of his name (Ganesha is the chief of the ganas, the goblin hosts of Shiva). Ganesh murti is shown as having a potbellied appearance and eating a handful of spherical Indian sweets.
